What Shall We Say Then?

Can you honestly say, like the Apostle Paul said, "I am the Chief of Sinners!?" Sin, like a cancer never stays isolated in one place, it's nature is to grow, spread and infect the entire body. How does a true believer who hates his or her sin gain the victory so desperately longed for? How can the cancer of sin be cut out once and for all? The key to spiritual victory is found in Romans 6: 7: and 8: Within these three amazing chapters we see the Doctrine of Sanctification: becoming like the Lord Jesus Christ thoroughly explained. This message serves as an overview of chapter 6: "What Shall We Say Then?" (Putting Sin to Death from Principle to Practice) Romans 6:1-23 Bring it Home as you Listen for LIFE!

The ONE Man- Jesus Christ – Part Two

In Christ we have a new identity and live in a new community. Romans 5:12-21 is an amazing section of Scripture clarifying the role of the Law of God in our salvation. One might think the giving of the law would act as a hindrance to all who break it. Just the opposite is true. Knowing the written law elicits within our fallen, sin nature a passion to break it, to dance on the line, to cross it as many times as we can without getting caught or charged. "Moreover the Law entered that the offense might abound." Romans 5:20 John MacArthur Jr. writes, "The only thing that is more powerful in the heart of God than His hatred of sin is His love for the sinner." Listen for LIFE!

The One Man: JESUS CHRIST

All I can say is, "WOW!" What a wonderful revelation of the work of God in our salvation. From our offense to Christ's grace. From our judgment and condemnation to Christ's Justification. From our disobedience to Christ's righteousness. From our sin and spiritual death to Christ's life. From the one man: Adam to the one Man: Jesus Christ. Are you thankful for your salvation? Are you saved? Let's bring it home and take it home as we Listen for LIFE!

The One Man ADAM

Surely there is someone we can blame for the mess we find ourselves in? Is there anyone we can lay all the blame on? Actually, there is and there isn't. Adam, the first man is to blame for original sin and our collective state. But you and I are also to blame for our own sin and the consequences that come intrinsically with it. The Apostle Paul moves his readers to a brilliant comparison between two men and their two directions and consequences. This week Pastor Pete shares "The One Man: Adam" (Adam and the Reign of Death) in Romans 5:12-15. In this section we will see Adam and the reign of Death, the reign of the Law, the reign of Christ and the reign of Grace. Bring it Home as we "Listen for Life!"

We Hold the Rope

Reflections from Philippians and the Apostle Paul’s Relationship with a Rope-Holding Church by Dr. Dennis Ahern, Pastoral Counselor, WorldVenture William Carey is considered to be the “Father of Modern Missions.” He departed as a missionary with his family for India in 1793. One of the leaders who became a rope-holder for William Carey and the preaching of the gospel in India recorded the following: “Our undertaking to India really appeared to me, on its commencement, to be somewhat like a few men, who were deliberating about the importance of penetrating into a deep mine, which had never before been explored, we had no one to guide us; and while we were thus deliberating, [William] Carey, as it were, said “Well, I will go down, if you will hold the rope.” But before he went down…he, as it seemed to me, took an oath from each of us, at the mouth of the pit, to this effect—that “while we lived, we should never let go of the rope.” Peter Morden, Offering Christ to the World (Waynesboro: Paternoster, 2003), 136.

How Do I (We) Get Motivated?

When looking at the state of the church and the church in the state we see inertia in the wrong direction. Entire theme parks are created for our amusement playing on the pull of gravity, sliding, falling and spinning downhill can be great fun until we reach the bottom. We either stay at the bottom until we die or we find ourselves seeking even more thrill rides to take us even farther downhill and away from our life goals and dreams. When will we decide to do some hard climbing for the glory of God? When will we seek once again the bliss of accomplishing difficult goals and great heights of achievement? When will we selflessly give our lives away to pull others from the flames of destruction? Unfortunately, any climbing we do often comes from a motivation of self-effort. The church and professing believers must ultimately take the blame for the state of the church and the state of the state we find ourselves in. How will things change? What will it take to move the true believer from being a couch potato to being motivated to take the hard climb as a Christ exalting believer resulting in the blood, sweat and tears of evangelism, missions and life change that affects and infects all of society? Godly, Christ honoring, Biblical motivation is the key. Whatever motivates you moves you, compels you and ultimately challenges you to choose to climb instead of slide into oblivion. Picking Up the Cross

The Harvest

This message is the first of five for this year's October Missions Month. Our objective is to challenge, motivate and send out from F.B.C. those who profess to know Christ, to passionately seek to Make Him Known by faithfully proclaiming the gospel message through our living testimony and the sharing of the gospel itself from the pages of Holy Scripture. Tim and GLoria Hagquist, with World Venture, share a report on their work in gathering in the Harvest and share a brief film clip of a story of the harvest and the need to passionately gather in the harvest and how it takes a team to get it done. Our hope this month is that we will see God use His faithful servants to Bring it Home as others listen for LIFE!
